A Campaign for the Lodge and Dock

An improved exterior design will extend the Lodge Deck to comfortably seat the entire camp community, and new gables provide summer sun protection for all diners.

The area by the dish room will be extended and supported by a retaining wall, which also creates a safer path from Westward Ho.

In addition to the increased space and improved flow during mealtimes, the new covered deck increases flexible space for inclement weather programming, a need identified in Camp’s Master Plan.

On the lower floor, the area will be reconfigured to accommodate essential health and wellness needs including: handwashing stations, quiet meeting spaces, and improved facilities. Other upgrades include accessible uniform storage, an enhanced Camp Store, and an updated Trip Center where campers can participate in the planning and prep for war canoe, kayaking, and hiking trips throughout the San Juan Islands.

The new dock will meet safety and environmental standards by replacing creosote piles with galvanized steel pilings. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe floatation will be fusion-welded to make up the new floats. Dock surfaces will be fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) grating and allow at least 60% light penetration for protection of native eel grass. This upgrade will enable not only a safer waterfront program for all, but also ensures more secure moorage for Camp’s fleet of boats. More, this enables Four Winds to be responsible stewards of the Salish Sea by implementing an environmentally friendly design to raise the dock ramps and protect the forage fish breeding ground in the off-season.
