The Lodge
I remember the first time I walked into its den.
The warm fire glow cast a light that seemed to take me in.
And the children all were singing. I think it made me cry.
This old lodge still calls out to my soul, and will until I die.
– Neal Woodall
The center of camp is the Lodge, an original building constructed by founder, Ruth Brown, in 1932. Over the years, the building has grown and changed with the needs of Camp.
The Dock
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.
– John Masefield
The dock is another central part of camp life and lore. And, for many campers it will be their first experience on the property, with their arrival via passenger ferry on the first afternoon of each session. A safe, stout, and well-functioning dock is required to offer the popular range of waterfront activities including, unique to Four Winds, the Big Boat sailing program on Carlyn.
